Gorilla Glue #4 | Get to Know Your Favorite Strain

Discover the terpenes that make GG4 so euphoric and relaxing.

Gorilla Glue (aka Gorilla Glue #4, GG4, and even Original Glue) is an award-winning hybrid with quite a lineage and quite a story. Due to extensive backcrossing, its genetics includes powerhouse chemovars Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb, and even Chocolate Diesel. It should come as no surprise then that both its aroma and effects are potent.

Its origins involved an accidental pollination, seeds that were nearly thrown away, and several experimental phenotypes of which the fourth obviously reigned supreme. The makers of the strong adhesive by the same name ended up pursuing a trademark infringement lawsuit which led to the many other names this chemovar is known for.

While it has been known to “glue” people to the couch, the name actually comes from the dense amount of trichomes the buds produce. It’s been described as a bunch of trichomes with just a few stalks and leaves sticking out. There’s even a myth that the original breeders had to ditch the trimming scissors since the resin was so glue-like.

Before we jump in too deep, we want to remind everyone that we offer both botanical and cannabis-derived terpenes. We work hard to isolate the specific terpene profiles of popular cannabis strains so both cannabis consumers and non-cannabis consumers can enjoy and benefit from them.

Read on and discover all the details about GG4 and the terpenes that make it so potent.

Gorilla Glue #4 Terpene Profile

The overall Gorilla Glue #4 aroma is mildly floral but the main scents are wood, spice, and the perfect hint of skunk. More discerning noses may even pick up on delicate notes of chocolate (thanks to its Chocolate Diesel parentage). None of that would be possible, however, without dominant terpenes Beta-Caryophyllene, Alpha-Caryophyllene, and D-Limonene.

Beta-Caryophyllene makes up a big chunk of this terpene profile and is partially responsible for the potent body relaxation effects. Found in black pepper, cloves, hops, and even cinnamon, this isolate lends Gorilla Glue a spicy, herbal kick. It’s also one of the only non-cannabinoids that can activate cannabinoid receptors in the brain. This makes its anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic properties very powerful.

If you enjoy hoppy beers, you’re probably already familiar with Alpha-Caryophyllene. Also known as alpha-humulene, it’s found in large quantities in hops (which is why it may remind you of your favorite IPA). It’s also found in plants like coriander and sage and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

D-Limonene plays a big role in the euphoric effects of GG4. It should come as no surprise that D-Limonene is sweet, sour, and found in fruits like lemons, limes, and oranges. It’s one of the most common terpenes in nature and lends Gorilla Glue cerebral effects like mood elevation and mental stimulation.

While there are over thirty other isolates that make up this complex blend, these three are some of the main contributors to its unique flavor, aroma, and effects. Speaking of effects…

The GG4 Effect

In case you’re unaware, something really beautiful happens when you combine terpenes and cannabis. High levels of THC will definitely have a strong psychoactive effect, but without terpenes, you won’t experience the variety of flavors or subtle nuances of effects that different strains have.

That’s why some strains make you want to clean your entire house, while others make you want to drool on the couch for hours. Bottom line? If you love the way GG4 makes you feel, you can thank the exquisite combination of terpenes and cannabinoids.

Many longtime GG4 fans have described the initial effects as a cerebral rush. This includes a heady euphoria that has been known to last for several hours, but the body relaxation will set in much sooner than that. That initial rush will quickly wash over the body leading to total body relaxation, sedation, and a tendency to stick to the couch like glue.

How Can YOU Use the GG4 Terpene Strain Profile

Considering the mood-elevating and body relaxation properties of this chemovar, the GG4 terpene strain profile would be a practical addition to several types of products.

Infusing a cannabis or CBD distillate with GG4 terpenes would be an efficient way to create a variety of products with both the aroma and effects of this chemovar. Additionally, beverages designed to promote relaxation (tea, seltzer, etc.) would benefit from the sedative properties.

The GG4 terpene strain profile would also be appropriate for many different types of edibles. Perhaps one of the most interesting applications, however, would be personal care products like lotions, bath oils, or even aromatherapy. The aroma is pleasing all on its own, but the use of these terpenes would also add relaxing and mood-elevating properties to these products.

Either way, our botanically sourced GG4 terpene strain profile is perfect for both cannabis and non-cannabis products. Obviously, combining this blend with cannabinoids will pump up the effects. However, non-cannabis products seeking to promote a euphoric mood that’s still relaxing will greatly benefit from this blend.
